What Causes Product Warpage in Injection Molding?

With the increasing application of plastic products in daily life, injection molding has become the most common method for manufacturing plastic products. However, during the injection molding process, product warpage is often a defect that troubles manufacturers. So, what exactly causes this warpage in products?

There are various possible reasons for product warpage. One of the main reasons is the existence of excessive internal stress in plastic products. Additionally, a slow filling speed of the injection mold can also cause warpage in injection-molded parts due to uneven force distribution during forming. Furthermore, plastic that is too cold or inconsistent in temperature may also result in warpage as the product cools and shrinks unevenly. Lastly, insufficient cooling, inconsistent temperatures between the moving and fixed mold halves, or excessively high temperatures during product ejection can all lead to thermal deformation and subsequent warpage.

Injection Molded Products

To address the issue of product warpage, several measures can be taken: optimizing injection molding process parameters such as increasing mold temperature, adjusting injection speed and pressure to reduce the generation of internal stress; enhancing the mold's cooling system to ensure uniform shrinkage of the product during cooling; strictly controlling plastic temperature to avoid uneven shrinkage caused by low or inconsistent temperatures; and regularly inspecting and maintaining the mold to ensure consistent temperatures between the moving and fixed mold halves, as well as appropriate temperatures during product ejection.

In summary, product warpage is a common defect in the injection molding process, primarily caused by excessive internal stress, slow mold filling speed, low or inconsistent plastic temperature, and insufficient cooling. By optimizing injection molding process parameters, enhancing the mold's cooling system, strictly controlling plastic temperature, and regularly inspecting and maintaining the mold, we can effectively solve the problem of product warpage.
